New York insurance review

General liability insurance for New York contractors

Your insurance review should reflect the work you actually perform. Tell us your trades, project types, work locations and use of subcontractors so we can prepare a useful submission for available markets.

USA INSURANCE POLICY BROKERAGE INC. · NY corporate broker license BR-2000793. New York coverage availability depends on carrier, product and applicant eligibility and underwriting. An inquiry is not a binder or confirmation of coverage.

Describe the whole job

Include residential and commercial projects, new construction and repairs, typical project size and work away from your shop. Mention heights, excavation, demolition, roofing or other specialized work when applicable. Do not leave out a trade because it represents a small share of revenue.

Review the proposed coverage

Ask how the proposal treats injury to others, damage to other people’s property and completed work. Review limits, deductibles, exclusions and endorsements for your actual operations. Tools, business vehicles, employee injuries and professional services raise separate coverage questions.

Bring contract requirements early

Provide the insurance sections of project contracts before work starts. A certificate summarizes coverage; it does not amend, extend or create insurance. Ask the brokerage to compare requested additional-insured wording and other conditions with the policy and endorsements actually available.

Questions before you start

Does a certificate add someone as an additional insured?

The certificate itself does not change coverage. Additional-insured status depends on the policy and applicable endorsements. Supply the contract wording so the brokerage can review what is needed.

Can one liability policy cover every trade?

Eligibility and policy terms depend on the insurer and the operations disclosed. Describe all your work and ask for explanations of exclusions and restrictions before deciding.
